NIMC COLLABORATES WITH JOINT TAX BOARD (JTB) ON TAX PAYER REGISTRATION SYSTEM - Thursday, January 21, 2010

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) will collaborate with the Joint Tax Board (JTB) to produce a Tax Payer Registration system. The system which is known as Unique Taxpayer Identification Number (UTIN) is the first of its kind in Nigeria which will not only improve on revenue generation for the country but will also reduce the cost involved in the administration of taxes, increase the tax base with the compliance and will close existing loopholes in tax system. The system will also reduce some hitches like tax evasion, multiple taxation, Identification, registration of taxpayers and ease access to tax information.

This was disclosed by the Director- General and Chief Executive of NIMC Mr. Chris Onyemenam, in a meeting with the Chairman of JTB, Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui Okauru in his office. Mr.Onyemenam noted that the Commission is ready to work together with JTB for the successful implementation of the project. He noted that NIMC will provide a direct fiber connectivity between the two offices in order to support real- time data exchange, provide standards for tax payer registration software that will be compatible with NIMC back – end

 
 
to ensure interoperability of systems for Identity verification and integration purposes, and that the NIMC data centre will serve as a Disaster Recovery centre.
 
 
 
 
 
 

In her remarks, Mrs. Ifueko Okauru explained the purpose of her visit to NIMC which she said has a great impact on the project. She further explained that the Joint Tax Board will partner with NIMC in an effective and efficient areas like collocation i.e. the use of NIMC disaster Recovery site, connecting the JIB system to the NIMC national fiber network, use of NIMC database for taxpayer data verification and validation and will continually support the project implementation by NIMC via its management and representatives. She thanked the Director General for his hospitality and prayed that the project will strengthen the existing relationship between the two offices.
