: National Identity Management Commission:

Welcome to the officical Web site of the National Identity Management Commission [NIMC].

Established by the NIMC Act No. 23 of 2007, it has the mandate to establish, own, operate, maintain and manage the National Identity Database in Nigeria, register persons covered by the Act, assign a Unique National Identification Number and issue General Multi-Purpose Cards (GMPC) to those registered individuals, and to harmonize and integrate existing identification databases in Nigeria.

Vision / Mission Statement
The Commission exists to establish and regulate a reliable and sustainable national identity management system and infrastructure that will enable a citizen or legal resident assert his identity.

It aims to achieve this by maintaining identification standards and creating a secure database that will promote national security and enhance socio-economic development.

This Act repeals the Department for National Civic Registration Act, Cap. 240, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990 and establishes a National Database for the country and the National Identity Management Commission.
